Thank you. In Minnesota- our hospitals haven’t been this bad since 2020.

23 people have died from the flu.

I really think that people have immune system damage and can’t fight off flu, rsv, covid, and norovirus. In the Minnesota reddit, so many people are writing about their entire family being sick. 🤢

My household hasn’t gotten sick. My spouse passed on some high exposure activities, my son is wearing his mask, as am I. And, I don’t share air outside of my household when the hospitals are full.

I disagree with this title- unprecedented flu. It was completely predictable.

Theresa...I think you're onto something.

Below is the link to the CDC Respiratory Surveillance Dashboard.

You can specifically dial in Region 8 that covers Minnesota.

Influenza is rocketing higher, putting the other pathogens to shame.

I guess we'll find out soon if Region 8 is the canary in the coal mine.

We had low flu vaccination rates…even if it isn’t that effective.

I have long covid from the one case of covid, (dec 22) that my spouse gave me.

I had sepsis in summer 2023. I hope that people who have sepsis go to the hospital and get seen and treated promptly.

Sepsis is so painful. It feels like your cells are imploding.

TACT...As if you don't have enough pathogens to watch, Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) might be another one to keep an eye on. While commentators often mention its mildness, there does appear to be some genetic evolution ongoing. Where this all leads is unclear at this point, but I'm not sanguine about its continued "mildness".

hMPV follow-up...

Now, THIS is what I call damned interesting...

"Disease severity did not correlate with lung viral titer, as virulent strains exhibited restricted replication in the lower airway. Virulent HMPV isolates were associated with markedly increased proinflammatory cytokine production and neutrophil influx..."
